The International Soil Moisture Network - An observational network for soil moisture product validations

چکیده
In situ soil moisture measurements are invaluable for calibrating and validating land surface models and satellite-based soil moisture retrievals. On a worldwide basis the number of meteorological networks measuring soil moisture is still limited and their data lack standardization of technique and protocol. In response to this, the International Soil Moisture Network (ISMN) was initiated to serve as a centralized data hosting facility where globally available in situ soil moisture measurements from operational networks and validation campaigns are collected, harmonized, and made available to users through a web interface, while downloads are provided according to common standards for data and metadata. Currently the network contains data of 16 networks with more than 400 stations and is rapidly expanding. As the ISMN is fed and utilized by the scientific community it will become a valuable resource for validating and improving satellitederived soil moisture products and studying climate related

Volumetric soil moisture estimation using Sentinel 1 and 2 satellite images
Surface soil moisture is an important variable that plays a crucial role in the management of water and soil resources. Estimating this parameter is one of the important applications of remote sensing. One of the remote sensing techniques for precise estimation of this parameter is data-driven models. In this study, volumetric soil moisture content was estimated using data-driven models, suppor...
متن کاملAn Operational In Situ Soil Moisture & Soil Temperature Monitoring Network for West Wales, UK: The WSMN Network
This paper describes a soil moisture dataset that has been collecting ground measurements of soil moisture, soil temperature and related parameters for west Wales, United Kingdom. Already acquired in situ data have been archived to the autonomous Wales Soil Moisture Network (WSMN) since its foundation in July 2011. The sites from which measurements are being collected represent a range of condi...
متن کاملA soil moisture and temperature network for SMOS validation in Western Denmark
The Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity Mission (SMOS) acquires surface soil moisture data of global coverage every three days. Product validation for a range of climate and environmental conditions across continents is a crucial step. For this purpose, a soil moisture and soil temperature sensor network was established in the Skjern River Catchment, Denmark. The objectives of this article are to ...
متن کاملEvaluation of AMSR2 soil moisture products over the contiguous United States using in situ data from the International Soil Moisture Network
High quality soil moisture datasets are required for various environmental applications. The launch of the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) on board the Global Change Observation Mission 1—Water (GCOM-W1) in May 2012 has provided global near-surface soil moisture data, with an average revisit frequency of two days. Since AMSR2 is a new passive microwave system in operation, it i...
